Refugee support tour Calais *.

We are setting up a new group to help out at "The Jungle", the biggest refugee camp in Europe situated in Calais. After the first visit we're now leaving from Dover for the second time to help at the warehouse and discuss how we can set up a good infrastructure to organise groups coming from UK as well as France heading to Calais. We were recently told that donations are urgently needed for the wintertime. We're working with l ' Auberge of the migrants and Calaid, two charity organisations organising food, clothes and building proper shelters. Around 6000 refugees live in Calais, and at least 100 are arriving every day, 1500 in Dunkerque and other small camps are setting up day by day. That we last time we worked out some ideas to support will now try to put into action:
-A lot of donations do not fit to the actual needs of the refugees. To give on example: around 70% of shoe donations are send back by volunteers to where they came from – most of them to London because in a wet, muddy and cold environment of walking boots or sneakers are the only option. We want to try to raise more awareness and open a second-hand shop with the leftovers to generate money for tents, stoves, building material etc. We're so trying to find donations people picking up the and to bring them back to London.
-VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED. We want to connect groups around Europe organising convoys to Calais (and elsewhere). Remember that this is always a safer and cheaper way to get to the camps. In a longterm view we'll set up a Web site to make it easier to get into these groups. You'll shortly find a document on our website to subscribe for becoming a volunteer.
-We would therefore like to support and work with the theatre project "good chance Calais" which is situated in the middle of the jungle offering various workshops for kids and elders.
