Second Part Calais: The Warehouse

We arrived at the warehouse at 9 a.m. in the morning. After a little warm-up we split up in different groups to prepare donation bags for the refugees. Some were sorting out clothes and sanitary products for women who lost their belongings during a fire at the Jungle last week. Others prepared shoeboxes to deliver to the new arriving refugees.

While doing so we learned that donations are a complex topic. A lot of them are actually not usable for the refugees in their extreme living conditions. The result was a big mountain of plastic bags.

Hereby you find detailed information about what clothes are actually needed at the moment:

No oversize clothes, no dirty or ripped clothes, no sleeveless clothes, no skirts, no suit/leather/non water-proof jackets, no shorts, no shirts, “if you wouldn’t wear it, no one else will!”

In consequence we used the afternoon to load up the vans with throwouts and brought them to other charity organisations.
