Often, the ships on the Turkish side already have a contact to a * m activist * in on Chios and contact them as soon as they have reached Greek waters. Then, lifeguards can bring the boat into a harbor. At this point, the volunteers take the people in reception, equip them with dry clothing, and provide them with food and drink. Occasionally, the volunteers must serve also acute emergencies, for which the vast majority are not trained at all. The Greek Government is limited in the whole bet on to sponsor one usually much too small bus taking the refugees to a registration camp at the end.
